Rules commercial vehicles get ticketed for
- 3-hour limit. Unless signs say otherwise, a commercial vehicle may not park on any street for more than 3 hours.
- No overnight parking on residential streets between 9 PM and 5 AM.
- Double parking is allowed for quick pick-ups, deliveries or service calls only during the hours posted on the signs.
- Overnight truck parking: NYC DOT runs an Overnight Truck Parking Pilot with dedicated truck spaces in Industrial Business Zones.
Trucks also get camera violations: bus lane, red light, school zone speed, and weigh-in-motion overweight cameras on the BQE.
Pay or dispute within 30 days
You have 30 days from the ticket date to pay or request a hearing. Disputes can be done fully online or by mail. After 30 days, penalties are added:
| Time since the ticket | Parking ticket | Camera violation |
|---|---|---|
| Under 30 days | No penalty | No penalty |
| 30 days | +$10 | +$25 |
| 60 days | +$20 more | — |
| 65 days | — | Final notice mailed |
| 75 days | — | Goes into judgment |
| 90 days | +$30 more | — |
| 100 days | Goes into judgment | — |
A ticket in judgment also gets interest. If a vehicle's tickets in judgment total more than $350, it can be booted or towed.
City fleet programs that lower fines
The NYC Department of Finance runs programs for companies with commercial vehicles:
- Stipulated Fine Program for businesses that make deliveries.
- Commercial Abatement Program for businesses that make pick-ups or service calls.
In both, you pay violations at a reduced fee and give up the right to a hearing on them. After you apply, the city sends a bill for your outstanding violations; once those are settled, you can join.
NYC Fleet Tickets Tracker includes a free helper: fill in a short form and it makes the city's application for you, with all your plates filled in. You sign it and send it to the city yourself.
Keep every truck's tickets in view
See open, paid and dismissed tickets for every vehicle, tickets by borough, and reports in Excel and PDF for your office or accountant. Get a phone alert and an office email when a new ticket posts, so it gets paid or disputed inside the 30 days.
